Internet Upate

So I guess the ISP has gotten new modems sooner than they expected, and they visited our house today.

However, they did nothing but "confirm" where on the roof the line of site modem would be (satellite internet is groovy).

They did promise to return tomorrow, Sunday or Monday to install, inshallah.

We're all doing well. Sam is now smiling rather than staring at us with a doubtful look on his face. Jack is starting school in a week. He was very happy to hear that this school does not have nap time (it only goes to noon). Katherine is managing the unpacking process as our stuff arrived yesterday and I'm stuck in the office today.

Life is good.

We're here

But without internet service at home for likely weeks, so hard to post pictures and flowery descriptions of our life in Zambia.

We're all well, and settling in.

Hopefully we'll have internet at home by mid-November and can put up some pictures and whatnot.

Cheers!

Departure

Heading to the airport in a few hours. Should be in Lusaka about 25 hours later, but won't have internet at home for a while. Not that a lack of internet will mean fewer posts as we've been quite remiss in splashing photos of Sam around the internet like we did with Jack.

Either way, adios. Next post will be from Zambia.

The Joys of Packing Out

further update:

looks like the scale they were using is not...how do you say...working. So we're waiting on a new scale to re-weigh all the boxes. We're hoping the scale was radically over-weighing our stuff.

update:

reached our weight limit with most of our clothes, many toys, and kitchen stuff still to be packed. Poor planning on our part.

---------------------

Me: Your boxes are too small for our golf clubs

Mover: These are the only boxes we have.

Me, calling State Transport Office: They don't have boxes big enough for our clubs

STO: Of course not, you can't ship golf clubs in unaccompanied baggage (UAB).

Me: But we shipped our clubs TO the US in UAB.

STO: Yeah, but we can't ship clubs in UAB. Sometimes Posts allow clubs to go in UAB. But they can't.

Me: But we DID ship clubs in UAB

STO: Yeah, but you can't.

Me: But now our clubs are stranded in the US because THEY WERE SHIPPED HERE IN UAB.

STO: Yeah, but we can't ship clubs in UAB.

Me: is that written anywhere?

STO: No, you just can't.

-----------

I know, I know. Golf clubs, whatever. But still.

Departure in T-5 days. But first, a visit from Auntie Sarah and Auntie Maren, arriving tonight at about 11:30 pm.

Shift Change

First it was Marilyn and Diana. Then Marilyn and Luther. Then Diana and Alan.

Then, for a day...no one.

Then Meredith.

Now Meredith, Bonnie and Stephen.

So, you know, we've had visitors.

Katherine and Sam have both been medically cleared to travel to Zambia, so we're working on getting amended orders (that include Sam), a passport (for Sam) and tickets for all of us to travel to Lusaka on October 18. Wish us luck.
