Big Cave. This is a cave near Muang Kham, where the MAG clearance project is. The story goes that the people from nearby villages took refuge in this cave during the war. In 1968 (I think) an American jet fired 4 rockets at the cave. One impacted on the cave entrance, and 3 entered into the cave and exploded. Somewhere near 350 people died. The cave was so hot that people couldn't enter for 3 days afterward. There is some question as to whether it was purely a civilian hiding place, as the history goes, or whether it was a command post for the Vietnamese and Pathet Lao. Perhaps it's a bit like the cemetery in Phonsavanh for all the Chinese students that died in the area during the war. Anyway, big cave.
