Low City Temple

So down the hill from Phnom Rung is Prasat Muang Tam. Muang Tam means low city, which, when compared to Phanom Rung, or big hill, it is. We again had the place to ourselves. What is is about ancient Khmer ruins and us that seem to repel other people? Maybe it's just us.

Anyway, the interior of this temple complex had a series of ponds that were supposedly to ward off invaders. The only problem was that there were four large promenades that led through the ponds directly into the inner sanctuary. Can't imagine the ponds ever really repelled anyone.

Some monks showed up to check out the stone work and smoke cigarettes.

What did I tell you before? Shiva couldn't get enough of riding around on his bull with his consort, Uma. You know, I always thought consort had sort of a negative sexual connotation to it, like a girl on the side, or something.

Like Shiva's in a bar somewhere and Vishnu is like, 'dude, I saw you riding on Nalinda the other day with Uma, what's that all about?' And Shiva says, 'whatever, dude, she's just a consort.'

But dictionary.com seems to think that a consort is something more, maybe even a spouse.

Anyway, again, a pediment showing Shiva with his special lady friend riding around on his bull. What a player.
