Prasat Phanom Rung

Our next stop (the next day, after, of course, 2.5 more hours of bone-jarring driving back to the Thai border). The most famous and best-reconstructed Khmer sites in Thailand. This temple pre-dated Angkor, and is called Phanom Rung, which basically means big hill, or something very similar, because it was built on the top of, you guessed it, a big hill.

The most famous Khmer ruin in Thailand. This is the parking lot at 9:00 am on a Monday morning.
