The ubiquitous duguout canoe. They are everywhere in Laos. Any time you are on a river you will see people out fishing, transporting stuff, or just goofing around in them.

This is a regular sized one.

As we were taking our boat out at the end of the day, a few kids came by in their mini-dugout and watched us for a while. I got them talking after a bit (many kids are very curious and hang around foreigners just kind of watching, but when you start talking to them in Lao, they get very shy), then we had a rock throwing (distance) contest, a rock skipping contest, and then attempted to hit two cans that were floating by.

Finally, we all went for a swim, and I jumped in their boat, and it immediately swamped. Big falang in a small, shallow boat and all. Very amusing for the boys. I gingerly got in after a bit of bailing and tooled around a bit. It was fun, and again entertaining for the kids, as the boat was riding very low in the water.
